Roy Hunter - Hypnotist, FAKE DOCTORATE

Roy Hunter of Milton, WA is a popular speaker for the National Guild of Hypnotists and the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association. He claims to have been awarded an "honorary doctorate in clinical hypnotherapy" from St. John's University in Springfield, LA. He also claims to have been awarded a PhD from Alpha University and California University with a major in clinical hypnotherapy.

Let's investigate.

1. St. John's University in Springfield, LA

St. John's University is a non-accredited school offering online classes that is supposedly accredited by an organization called, "Accrediting Commission International." ACI is not recognized by the United Stated Department of Education. An interesting story is that St. John's University founders Art and Pam Winker ran the "university" out of a double-wide trailer in Louisiana for years.

St. John's University = Non-accredited

Accrediting Commission International = Not recognized by the US D.O.E

Therefore, Roy Hunter's "honorary doctorate" = SHAM

2. Alpha University

I previously did some extensive research into Alpha University when I busted another con-artist named Terence Watts. A little more investigation into "Alpha University" reveals its mailing address as 4664 Jamestown Avenue, Suite 140C, Baton Rouge, LA.

Sounds really fishy -a "university" that also happens to be a computer repair shop, a "hypnotherapy organization," and two different hypnosis "institutes." So I decided to check it out on Google Maps:

"Alpha University" happens to be a suite in the Parkview Office Building, which happens to be "Dr." Conrad Adams' hypnosis office. There's a For Rent sign in front of the building, so if you're looking for some office space in Baton Rouge, LA, I suggest contacting the Parkview Office Building management office.

"Alpha University" = BUSTED

Let's dig a little deeper into their "accrediting organization, the "National Accreditation for Colleges & Schools, Inc." (or NACS). A simple Google search yielded more complaints logged with the Better Business Bureau than I can count. Apparently, the NACS is NOT accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Click here to view all of the schools and agencies that ARE accredited by the D.O.E.
The NACS had misled numerous people trying to accredit their "schools" through deception, by saying that they are accredited or will soon be accredited, by the US Department of Education.

Therefore, let's create an equation:

If Alpha University is a SHAM, and the National Accreditation for Colleges and Schools is a SHAM, then a PhD earned there by Roy Hunter must be a SHAM.

3. PhD from California University with a major in Hypnotherapy

Plain and simple, California University, accredited or not, DOES NOT EXIST! A search of California colleges at http://www.californiacolleges.edu/ yielded NO matches. Therefore, FAKE SCHOOL = FAKE DEGREE.

We affirm that Mr. Roy Hunter is PhD con artist with absolutely no doctoral credentials.

Cal Banyan & Rev. Giles - Advocates speaking out against Fake PhDs

I caught an interesting article posted in 2008 by Cal Banyan, when he referred to Rev. Scott Giles' article entitled, "Shooting Yourself in the Foot Part #1: Real v. Fake Credentials." Banyan wrote:

Bravo Rev. C. Scot Giles, DNGH! In case you don’t know who Rev. Giles is, he writes for the National Guild of Hypnotists, Journal of Hypnotism, which just arrived in my mailbox today. I loved his latest article, Shooting Yourself in the Foot Part #1: Real v. Fake Credentials. In this article, he talks about such things as “The Mail-Order Degree“, “The Internet Ordination” and “The Silly Title“.
My favorite part was about fake hypnosis degrees. I just can’t stand it when someone comes up to me and tells me that they have a “PhD” or other kind of “doctorate” in hypnosis! I don’t know about every country in the world, but I do know that there is no such thing in the USA.
I don’t mean to make people who have these fake degrees angry at me, but I just have to tell them that you are doing EVERYONE a HUGE disservice by promoting yourself and your service by holding out these fake degrees in hypnotism, hypnosis and hypnotherapy.First of all, as Rev. Giles will tell you, these degrees, even if they take some work to get, do not rise to the level of study required to achieve a real academic degree. These fake hypnosis degrees are not recognized by any organization who would grant a real degree. In most cases you will find that these “degree granting” organizations will say that they ARE accredited. But with a bit more research, you will find that they created the organization that is accrediting them! Essentially, this means that they have accredited themselves. This is bad for the hypnotist who will be found out eventually. It is bad for the profession because when hypnotists are discovered to have false credentials, it makes everyone in the profession look bad. It is bad for our clients, because they are being misled to select a hypnotist based on false credentials. I have known people with these false degrees who could not hypnotize anyone! Nor could they carry on a intelligent conversation on the topic of hypnosis, hypnotherapy or hypnotism. I personally think these fake degrees should be outlawed. Bravo Rev. Giles for writing your article, and thank you NGH for printing it! 

This is wonderful testimony about the dangers of hypnotists bearing false credentials. There is one problem, however, in that both Banyan and Giles are leaders of the National Guild of Hypnotists, an organization who tends to turn their heads at fake credentials. Simply review this blog to see a number of NGH members who lie about the credentials. I applaud Banyan and Giles, but they have the influence to make such changes at the NGH and, well, obviously nothing has changed since 2008.

Nikki Goldman - Fake PhD Hypnotist

"Dr." Nikki Goldman, who has offices in Poway, CA and Temecula, CA is the next fraud who found their way into our sights. On her website at http://www.drnikkigoldman.com/, she claims to have earned her "Ph.D. in hypnotherapy in 1989." Of course, she doesn't state from where. Nor does she cite any bonafide academic credentials. If you're a follower of this blog, you know these are the red flags to look out for. And you also know that there are absolutely NO legitimate doctoral program in hypnosis. That's zip...zero...zilch...nada. You're busted, Nikki Goldman.

Kenneth Grossman - FAKE DOCTORATE

Kenneth Grossman of the Dr. Kenneth Grossman Organization, Inc. in Sacramento, CA is the next scam artist to attract our attention. He claims to have earned a doctorate in Clinical Hypnotherapy from the American Institute of Hypnotherapy. If you've been following this blog, you already know that there are no accredited doctoral programs in hypnosis. In some states, it is considered a crime to boast a doctorate from an unaccredited institution. I should print doctorates on my home printer and sell them, just like how he earned his. Ken "Grossly Unethical" Grossman, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Joanne Selinske - Derwood, MD FAKE PhD

Joanne Selinske of the Soul Source, located in Derwood, MD and serves the neighborhoods of Olney, Rockville, and Gaithersburg in Montgomery County claims to have "completed a doctoral program in transpersonal counseling." Of course, she doesn't state from where. That's because this scam artist didn't earn an accredited PhD from anywhere and there are no accredited "transpersonal counseling" programs anywhere. Before blowing your money on a moron such as this, be sure to verify their credentials first.
